Dr. Roni Ajao

Dr Roni Ajao is the founding member of MRL Public Sector Consultants (Ltd) which was established in October 2002 following her departure from PwC Consulting (formerly Pricewaterhousecoopers) to work as an independent Consultant.

Since the company’s formation, MRL Public Sector Consultants Ltd has grown and is now a recognised Practice of the Institute of Consulting (IC) a Corporate Member of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), a Corporate Member of the Association for Project Management (APM) and a Corporate Member of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA). The firm is also ISO 9001:2008 certified; Investors in People (IiP) Bronze accredited and is now a Registered Trade Mark ™.

Whilst at PWC, Dr Ajao was employed as a Senior Consultant in the Government and Defence Service. Prior to working for PWC Consulting, Dr Ajao worked as a consultant within the Government and Public Service of PA Consulting following eight years’ experience working at the strategic and at the local levels of government.

Dr Ajao has worked for several UK government departments including the Department for Transport (DfT), the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the United Kingdom Identity and Passport Service (UKPIS), the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and the Department for Education (DfE), undertaking a variety of assignments. At the local government level she worked for the London Boroughs of Southwark, Lewisham, and Hillingdon, Wycombe District Council and Kent County Council.

Dr Ajao is an Adviser to the government and has worked on several key programmes both nationally and internationally, including projects for the United Nations (UN), the World Bank and the Department for International Development (DFID).

Dr Ajao has extensive experience in programme and project management, conducting scoping studies, organisational reviews and design, communications and stakeholder management, corporate strategy development and public sector management. She is also an expert in change management, leadership tutoring and coaching and environmental management. Her work involves working at the strategic level of governments with Ministers, Members of Parliament, Permanent Secretaries, State Governors, Senators, Chief Executive Officers and other senior management levels.

Dr Ajao initially trained as a Land Surveyor and Town Planner before moving into Management Consultancy with a special interest in the public sector. Dr Ajao holds a Doctorate in Business Administration from Durham University (UK), an M.Phil. from University College London (UCL). She also holds a MBA from City University London with a M.Sc. in Consulting and Coaching for Change from HEC in Paris (France) and Oxford. Dr Ajao also holds a certificate in International Development and Global Change from the University of Cambridge (UK), a certificate in Management Research from Cranfield University Management School, a certificate in Leadership from Harvard University and an Advanced Management Programme qualification from Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania.

Dr Ajao is also an active researcher in Leadership and has recently been appointed as Africa’s Consultant for Executive Education at Judge Business School, University of Cambridge.

Dr Ajao is the first black woman in the UK to hold a Triple Fellow and to achieve a doctorate in Business Administration from the University of Durham Business School. She is Fellow of the Institute of Consulting, a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute and a Fellow of the Institute of Leadership and Management. She is also a Chartered Manager of Chartered Management Institute and a Member of the Association for Project Management.

From 2007 – 2009 she held the position of the Chairperson of the Eastern Region for the Institute of Consulting, as well as, being nominated for Lloyd’s Bank Woman of the year in 2009. In December 2007, she was one of the recipients of the Nigerian Achievers Golden Commendation Award. In March 2008, as a result of her outstanding achievements, Dr Ajao was recognised by “Who is who” of Britain’s Elite – Business Leaders of the Millennium, as being in the top 1% of executives in the UK amongst 2.2 million companies. She was again recognised by the “Who is Who” in 2009 and 2012.
