The theme of the conference “Making Our Future” was targeted at providing the UK manufacturing sector with a networking platform for key industry players and political figureheads to share ideas and map out the future of the various manufacturing sectors in the coming months and years. It also provided an opportunity to brainstorm on the key issues facing the industry and processes for developing pragmatic and sustainable solutions. There were a number of breakout sessions during the event including those that focused on “Building a Resilient Workforce and Leading Successful Businesses”; “Volatility vs Efficiency – Managing Global Supply Chains”; “Social Values in Defence”; “A Green, Diverse, and Local Future”; and “A Material World”. These sessions were delivered by seasoned operators and speakers from the various manufacturing sectors as they related to different business areas. The Executive Director of MRL®, Dr Roni Ajao, featured in session on Social Values in Defence where she presented strategies for creating a more sustainable, diverse, equal, and ultimately competitive business. She further highlighted the social values priorities in the defence sectors, the current strands of their implementation, and the implications for industries. She emphasised that businesses can best organise for the future by embracing imperatives that cause positive changes across different sectors.
